Introduction
Shashank and Manisha Phadke, a couple who are architects, have decided to add to the beauty of the city by designing innovative buildings. With a constant passion for creativity and innovation, they have helped enhance the beauty of Pimpri-Chinchwad city by constructing various artistic buildings.
Their Journey
Phadke’s Solespace office in Morwadi, Pimpri-Chinchwad city, is a great example of architecture. It would not be an exaggeration to call it a ‘master piece of art’. He always has a passion for innovation. Along with adding to the beauty of the city, he dreams of creating architects. His wife Manisha has also contributed significantly to this artistic journey.
Phadke originally hails from Vinzar village in Velha taluka. Milkman Prakash Phadke was also known as Clockmaker Phadke. Mother Chhaya is a housewife and a sister Nisha is a family. Manisha’s family includes renowned doctor – Ram Vilas Mantri, mother Kalavati, brother Dr. Abhijit, sister Anuja.
Phadke said about his childhood, “Our family has been living in Pune since 1935. My grandfather had a watch shop on Lakshmi Road. At that time, my grandfather had a hobby of collecting various artistic watches. There was a time when only my grandfather would repair the watches in the collection. My father wanted me to become an architect. The legacy of art was in the family. I studied till 10th standard in a Maharashtra Mandal school. Then I completed 12th standard from M.E.S. Garware College. After that, I obtained my architect degree from M.M.C.A. College in 1991.
While studying, I worked for a while with the famous architect Charles Correa. I worked with the renowned architect Laxman Thite’s firm on a fifty percent partnership. After that, I started working with the aim of making a different mark in the field of architecture. At that time, the concept of low cost housing was very popular. Therefore, working within the legal framework was a big challenge, and I successfully overcame it and designed housing projects. I prepared plans.
I create architecture by thinking about how to provide maximum satisfaction to the citizens while buying a house. While providing various facilities, I take care of how there will be natural light and ventilation in the house. My wife Manisha also contributed to the growth of the business. In order to have a global image in housing, I also contributed to Soulspace and Economy Housing. Our company, which started in Sadashiv Peth, works in the departments of architecture, licensing, graphics, project management, interior in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities.”
Phadke says, “Every business faces difficulties; but with the support of friends, they can be overcome. That is why we were able to build a seven-story green building. Housing projects like Katepuram, Swarganga, Rajpark, Queenstown, Shubhashree, Kadars, Montvert Tropez, Empire Square, Kundan Fort, Mayanagari have been successfully completed.”
The new city development plan and its associated rules are currently complicated. The old rules should be changed immediately and the new system should be streamlined. Focusing on optimal use of space, natural light, and ventilation, I worked for some time with architect Charles Correa. I worked with renowned architect Laxman Thite’s organization on a fifty percent partnership. After that, I started working with the aim of making a different mark in the field of architecture. Phadke believes that it is necessary to prepare house project plans by focusing on optimal use of space, natural light, and ventilation.
He spends his days off traveling. He loves riding a motorcycle. He used to participate in various programs of the Rotary Club. Communicating with people and making friends are his favorite hobbies. He is also always ready to work through the Indian Institute of Architecture. Phadke has two children, Dhruv is studying in the second year of architecture. He works at the Wildlife Institute. While Dev is studying in the tenth standard.
I like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. His leadership and the art of distinguishing friends and enemies give an example of how a king should be. Also, I find the book ‘Godfather’ inspiring. This book shows how a common man has the strength to overcome situations. Also, the book ‘Partner’ is a guide, says Phadke.
Many dreams are still unfulfilled. He has worked a lot in housing projects. He dreams of doing innovative work like the Piece of Art in Italy and Spain. He will do whatever he can to give a global image. There is a need to create an architecture college in the city that implements a different education system. He wants to work towards that. The contribution of architects in urban development is valuable. They are working to enhance the beauty of the city and he intends to produce many architects.
He says, “Since I got into this business, there has not been a single moment when I have no work. I am always ready to satisfy the developer. I came into this field because I had a passion. Life feels worthwhile when I find a partner who is also like-minded. My wife Manisha Phadke supported me, so it became easy to achieve success.”
Manisha is originally from Pune. Her father is Dr. Ram Vilas Minister and her mother is a housewife. Manisha Phadke is working to add to the artistic beauty of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad city. She has worked for P. N. Gadgil, G. L. Raheja, Rajshree Cement, Birla Global Finance, Symbiosis, G. K. Construction, Sukhwani Construction, Kangaroo Kids School. Manisha likes reading, absorbing good things, long drives, touring India, and traveling the world. She likes to absorb new things and experiments that are going on at the global level in the interior field.
Manisha Phadke said, “I was born in a highly educated family. I studied till 10th standard from St. Joseph’s High School in Pashan. Then I completed 12th standard from Ferguson College and graduated from M. M. College of Architecture. Since I have a passion for design and creativity, I chose the field of architecture for my future. In the Marwari family, girls are married off early. However, my family members gave priority to education. That is why I was able to become an architect. During this time, I met Shashank and later he became my life partner, which helped me fulfill my ambition.”
In 2002, Phadke was honored by Sharad Pawar as the best architect of the year of Pimpri-Chinchwad city. Also, in 2005, Phadke was honored by the Rajasthan government and former President Pratibha Patil for the best industrial project.
This is the couple who together gave Pimpri-Chinchwad a unique look with their own style. Architects Shashank and Manisha Phadke express their ambition to do more based on growing space, growing needs, changing thinking, and growing imagination.
